Nomen est Omen, that´s the case with this Fuchsia! This perfect beauty we ow to the diligence of the gardener Victoire Murru from Belgium. He crossbred two cultivars of his former breedings- some years old: Marie-Thérèse Paring- given the name of his wife- and Vicmarther. Obviously this new hybrid pleased him that much that he introduced it as “Murrus Perfecta” 1999. Without any exaggeration: Anyone who will have a look at that Fuchsia will be most delighted! But this has to be achieved with patience and endurance, because...
read morePart 2 Fuchsias for Valentines Day! Today it’s Valentines Day, and ladys love to be presented some Flowers on that day! But unfortunately: my beloved husband is today at home with an acute illness, and therefore there will be no cut-flowers today… But there is my greenhouse in the garden, and building it was initially his idea. And there are already some flowers to be seen in it. And for my comfort: they will certainly last longer than cut-flowers in a vase. That the wooden sprouts are not covered with leaves yet does not bother...
read morePart 1 Daytime is- again- increasing. The increasing duration of daylight induces some Fuchsias to grow buds and even blossoms. Some cultivars do that regularly in february, others are this year starting exceptional early! The delicate “Feste de Flores” is among these early ones each year the same as “Careless Whisper”. The big, thick “Wuschel” is also showing up each year in February, and likewise “Rohees New Millennium” and “Silbernes...
read moreFuchsias of the Group Triphylla-Hybrids are very special! The Fuchsia Zets Alpha is cultivar of this group, crossbred by the Dutch breeder Z. Stoel from the cultivars Fuchsia volcanica and the Hybrid Citation from USA, and was introduced 1993. The elegance of the leafs, combined with the very long tubes makes this plant very impressive. The lineage of the Triphylla species is prominent in this cultivar. Like the most of the Tryphillas it is growing bushy and tolerates direct sunlight. But Zets Alpha is growing faster then the other...
read moreBlue Fuchsias of this kind and this eager to blossom are rarely to be found. . The successful fuchsia enthusiast and breeder Burgi Klemm-Vorau from Austria introduced 2010 the beautiful Burgi’s Kurti, a crossbreed between the both cultivars Cheltenham and Cliff’s Own. Burgi’s Kurti is growing upright and does tolerate sun, changing the color of the sepals in that case from white to pink. The significant blue of the corolla is maintained, and therefore it stands out explicitly from other Fuchsias...
read moreFuchsia Blossoms in January are quite touching…. ….and i am proud of them! There might be quite some discussion or philosophical dispute, wether the shape or nature of the plant and also the form or color of the leaves may be as well decisive for declaring a fuchsia to be beautiful. True that might be in some way. But, getting my opinion honestly right to the point: the best thing with blossoming plants are their blossoms! A well renown owner of a Fuchsia-Nursery told me some time: “If they are not blossoming, i might...
read moreThe Fuchsia Schneeflocke (Snow Flake) fits to the onset of winter in Germany this week Same as the winter is not quite hard this season in our part of Germany, this Fuchsia is not completely white, but also expresses pink colors on the tubes and the basis of the petals, and the blossoms are at last medium size. These aspects turns the viewer more to some “warm” feelings than to chilling frost. The german breeder J. Jehle introduced this Fuchsia 1995, but unfortunately gave no informations about the lineage....
read moreWhether it is snowing or freezing outdoors, in the greenhouse the heater maintains a temperature above 6°C. To keep the costs of heating at bay, the windows should be regularly controlled for tightness. It already happened, that- during warmer and windy weather, when the windows were opened by the heat dependent openers- they were shifted and did not close exactly any more. The greenhouse is quite a good one, being a hobbyist, but: to trust is good, but better watch the gadgets! Some of my fuchsias are already sprouting considerably....
read moreObeisance to Wolfram Goetz This well renown german Fuchsia-breeder died a few days ago. This is sad news. But his cultivars remain with us, pleasing us with an early blossoming in abundance- if the plant is properly nourished-, above that being of a merry appearance. This zest for life should forever been accompanied with him! About 1994 he crossbreeded the Fuchsia-cultivars Lisi and Fenja, waiting until 1997 to present the new cultivar to the public, naming it Cherry for good reason. Among the...
read moreFuchsias: Are they really old-fashioned? Quite often you hear people say: “These Fuchsias are quite nice, but they are more for the elderly”. Or: “These Plantc are lovely, but they are out of style”. Is that correct? Are Fuchsias today neglegible at the plant market? Looking at it objectively it has to be seen different: (German market survey!) Market share and turnover of bed- and balcony Plants 2011 Total turnover year 2011 1.940 Mio€ Market-share in % Geraniae (Pelargonias) 11 213 Mio€...
