Fuchsia Die schöne Wilhelmine – Fuchsia of the Week 33/2014

was introduced in 1987 by the German hybridizer Wilfried Springer as a result of a crossing from the Triphylla “Leverkusen” and a hybrid of “Chang”.

And since then this Fuchsia with its very special appearance has caused quite a sensation and was given several awards. The growth is slow and upright, and there are many pink colored Blossoms. These are small with thick tubes and there are green tips on the sepals, which are shorter than the tubes. There is not much to be seen of the corollas.

With much regard: small, but beautiful! It wins over with the abundance of the blossoms- as usual with triphyllas- at the end of the branch, in appearance somehow clumsy but cute.

“Die schöne Wilhelmine” is quite hardy due to its wants: no problems with direct sunlight or ardor. But during overwintering there should be a moderate tempered environment.

I would be delighted to know more about  the cause of the interesting name (translated: The beautiful Willhelmine, the last word an woman´s given name), but: this hybrid is to be recommended, and one should really give it a try!
