He was very fond of Fuchsias, and obviously most of those in orange, but he did breed only a few. He was a gardener by profession, but worked in it only as a hobby.
In this hybrid he crossed the renown Fuchsias “Applause” and “Walz Mandoline”, and the result- in my opinion- does surpass these. From the former it got the style and from the latter the color, a truly lucky assemblage. A hanging basket, turning in the sun, will shine with its double blossoms so striking, that it will be lovely even from a far distance. The hybrid will flourish lush until fall and is not susceptible to vermin or illness. Though it is not surprising that this Fuchsia is among the Top 50 listed by the German Fuchsia Society.
Viewing a photo of this hybrid i was quite anxious to obtain it as early as possible, but this proved to be not easy at that time. Nowadays fortunately it is available at some Nursery’s, but often rapidly sold out showing the first blossoms. There are of course some hybrids with larger blossoms, but these of “Uschi Willkomm” are very expressive. Or, with other words, the one who wants to own this hybrid should pre-order at Nurseries as e.g. Friedl, Michiels oder Guttmann, if not being to late to get one. And, next year or better in 2 months, i will try to plant some cuttings, for i know that i will make some Fuchsia-Friends quite happy with this Hybrid!
