Fuchsia Lauchefeld – Fuchsia of the Week 47/2014

Fuchsia Lauchefeld – Fuchsia of the Week 47/2014

originates from our neighbor Switzerland.

Mrs. Olga Schaer introduced this hybrid in 1997, crossbreeding “Orwell” from the UK and “Golden Glow” from the USA. It was like love on first sight to me when i found this Fuchsia 4 years ago.

The single blossoms, appearing in abundance from early summer to late fall, are showing, if the plant is placed in sunlight, a striking salmon-pink color. Tolerating direct sunlight, rain and wind without visible changes the hybrid is quite impervious.

Overwintering, up to now, was no problem at all, and propagation through cuttings during winter or spring is easy.

In conclusion this Fuchsia does not have high demands and therefore no know-how treating Fuchsias is needed here; novices with this hobby this hybrid should be recommended to, at last if they like this color. The plants may as well be grown to large bushes or regulars, but not as hanging-baskets.

Another advantage of this hybrid is it being easily available (at last in Europe), as a part of the repertory of many nurseries, e.g. at R. Friedl and Unflath (both Bavaria, Germany) and at Michiels (Belgium).
